Terni is not only the city of steel mills, iron and fire, but a community that hides away plenty of surprises in its millenary history.A modern city that merges well with its ancient center, Terni is surrounded by scenes that have continued to enchant visitors over the centuries. A verdant terrain with Medieval villages (for instance, the lovely San Gemini), the wonders of nature are everywhere to be found, including the Marmore Falls and Lake Piediluco.
Today, in the twenty first century, Terni is a city completely renovated and human scale with an important historical, economic, social and natural centre. There is an alternation of vast industrial areas and green landscapes (especially the Marmore Falls), evidence of Roman and medieval remains and industrial archeology.
Terni is known into the world as the "City of Lovers", as its patron saint, Saint Valentine, was born and became a bishop here and the remains are preserved in the basilica-sanctuary in his honor. Every year the entire city holds grand celebrations for their patron saint, culminating in his festival day on February 14th.
